Selecting A Display for Digital Signage

Aspect Ratio and Orientation

Super-wide LCD display for digital signage The LG M3800S-BN is a super-wide display

Most modern screens have an aspect ratio of 16:9 (widescreen) although 4:3 monitors are still common and many computer monitors have slightly different ratios like 16:10.  Recently, some display manufacturers are starting to create novel displays with unusual aspect ratios like the LG M3800S-BN display which has a very wide format making it ideal to squeeze into a narrow space on a wall such as above a bar or cabinet.

Some digital signage software stretches images or adds black-bars to fit your display; this looks unprofessional and you should avoid such software.  SignSwift always scales your images proportionally to fill the screen so you get no distortion and no black bars.

If you have a narrow wall, like in an entrance lobby, you might want a tall, thin screen instead of a wide-screen.  SignSwift supports display rotation so you can mount any screen in a normal/landscape, or portrait (rotated-left or rotated-right) orientation.

You might also choose a portrait orientation for your display if the content demands it, like, for example, a menu, or a movie poster.  But before you try mounting a display in a rotated configuration make sure it has good viewing angles in that orientation.
